Terms & disclaimer
The short version
- MechKit is free and provided as-is.
- Its results are educational estimates. Check them against applicable codes, standards and a qualified engineer's review before you build, buy or certify anything.
- We accept no liability for decisions made using the results.
- Anything you add yourself (custom JSON or CSV sources) is your responsibility.
1. Acceptance
By using MechKit you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. What MechKit is
MechKit is a free, browser-based collection of mechanical engineering calculators and reference tables, published by Argenrise. It is provided for education, preliminary sizing and quick checking.
3. No professional advice
The calculators, formulas, typical material properties, thread tables and other reference data are simplified models and typical values. Real designs depend on factors this site does not know about: tolerances, fatigue, stress concentrations, temperature, corrosion, manufacturing defects, load cases, local codes and standards. Nothing on this site is engineering, legal, safety or other professional advice, and results must not be the sole basis for a design, purchase, certification or safety decision. Always have work checked by a qualified engineer and verify it against the applicable codes and standards.
4. No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any result is correct.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Argenrise is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the site, including decisions taken on the basis of its results. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the site, which is zero.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
6. Your inputs and custom sources
You are responsible for everything you paste, upload or load into the site, including custom tools and tables defined in JSON or CSV. Formulas in custom sources are read by a small built-in interpreter and are never executed as JavaScript, but a wrong or maliciously crafted formula still produces wrong results. We do not review, verify or endorse third-party sources loaded from a URL, and we may not be their author.
Do not upload material you do not have the right to use, and do not rely on this site to keep confidential data: it never reaches us, but it does live in your browser session.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or its host; interfere with its availability (for example, automated scraping at a volume that degrades service); use it to break the law; or present its output as certified, accredited or code-compliant calculations.
8. Intellectual property
The site's design, text and code are owned by Argenrise or used with permission and are protected by copyright. You may use the calculators freely, including for commercial engineering work, and you may quote short extracts with attribution. You may not republish the site, or a substantial part of it, as your own product. Custom sources you write remain yours; by adding them you grant us no rights to them, because they never reach us. Reference values are compiled from commonly published engineering data and should be verified against the original standards.
9. Third-party links and services
The site links to external pages and can fetch files from URLs you choose. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability or practices.
10. Privacy
How the site handles data is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
11. Changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time, and may update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. General
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms are the entire agreement between you and us about the site.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the courts of Ontario, Canada have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.
